As a young boy, I remember sitting on the powder-blue carpet of my living room completely consumed with watching the WWE match of the week as The Junkyard Dog battled it out with Greg Valentine. Whenever it seemed like JYD was down for the count he would “reach down deep” and find something “extra.” Gorilla Monsoon called it, “intestinal fortitude.” Today, we call it grit.
Wearing numerous hats that each have high expectations & working through seemingly unending to-do lists, I’ve come to realize that if I’m going to have any amount of success (as an employee, father, husband, or friend) life will require me to “reach down deep” even when I feel completely tapped.
Success requires grit. Pushing forward when I don’t feel like I can; pushing forward when I just don’t want to anymore.
